We Control the Horizontal

I've started reading a Lovecraft book owned by a friend of mine. Lovecraft's stories remind me a lot of The Twilight Zone. I can't really explain how, but I think that I really like it. We'll see how I feel as I get further though the book.

I've been noticing how weird it is to read and recall lots of stories. It really amazes me to catch small references in newer works. Even if it's just a small name reference.

In WoW, my priest is named Mykroft, which was inspired by Mycroft, the computer in The Moon Is a Harsh Mistress. This was, of course, a reference to Mycroft Holmes. A couple times now I've received compliments on my choice of name. While I never explain that I'm not directly referencing Holmes (which I have not read, but would like to now), it really does make me smile. I wonder if I should keep reading more, when there's so many books I read when I was younger whose references I've forgotten.

I re-read Cat's Cradle over the weekend. I enjoyed it as well. I may re-read Catch-22 next, when I'm done with the Lovecraft collection.

There And Back Again

I moved to Washington (again) Saturday, and I'm here for three months. Thankfully, it's the summer months, so the weather should be fairly nice.

I'm living in Redmond and the area around my apartment seems pretty cool so far, but I really do need to get out and explore some more. There isn't much to complain about, other than I could be closer to work, and I'd like a better view of Mount Rainier. Both of which are pretty minor and lame complaints.

I got a chance to visit some friends in Tacoma on Saturday night, and was up pretty late playing D&D. I should be here long enough to go to the Puyallup Fair, which would be pretty cool.

I start work at Microsoft tomorrow, and I'm hoping it turns out to be a fun three months. I've got to make a point to do more intern events. In previous internships I skipped out on most, and I think I kind of regret doing that. I guess I'll see how it turns out this time around.

Nothing to say

I've really wanted to post something here for a while, but can't come up with anything interesting to say. Well, anything that interests me and doesn't feel like pretentious ramblings.

School is out, and I leave for Washington in about 5 days. I have to move out of this house in about 3. I'm not looking forward to finishing that. A bunch of people I know graduated, which sucks in the sense that I probably won't ever really see them again.

I might have something really cool planned for the summer, but I'm kind of scared about it all working out. That being said, I still hope it does work out.

Cleaning my stuff at my parents' house, I found my old HS yearbooks. I'm surprised how much I miss some of those people. Ah well.

I'm still playing too much WoW, but Battlegrounds is pretty cool. I might make a post about that on here or a 1up blog or something.
