Moving on

Weeks later, I am out of Sammamish and now "permanently" reside in Bellevue. I'm thrilled to be so much closer to work but regret that I'm no longer within walking distance to a market. That being said I think this is the better of the two options in terms of not driving my car.

I'm still moving into my apartment in Bellevue. Unlike previous moves I don't have a garage to use as a crutch for storing old junk. Now I'm sorting through decades worth of things I've accumulated, trying to figure out what I've missed, what I'd rather not get rid of, and what needs to go in the trash. It's interesting to look through old yearbooks and see what people said so many years ago. I can't believe how much time has passed since high school, or since living in Puyallup. It was such a huge shock when Turner pointed out that I've known that group of folks for ten years.

For the one or two people who might be mildly interested, I'll try and take pictures of the apartment once it reaches some sort of a sane state.

I'm not sure how long it will be before I get another chance to try my hand at brewing beer. I need to work out some logistics such as cleaning carboys now that I don't have a yard and hose for dumping lees out in. Suffice to say, the process may be a lot harder than it was in the past.

Finally, last weekend was the annual Microsoft Intern Game. This year I had a chance to staff it, and it was a whole lot of fun. It reminds me a lot of Wildflower in the sense of something to staff where I feel incredibly tired afterwards.

Long Time No See

It's been about three months since I've touched this blog. In that time I've graduated and moved to Sammamish, though my degree has not yet been posted.

Work is fun, and I'm hopefully going to be moving into a more spacious apartment close to work this weekend. I'm really looking forward to having an apartment to myself where I can hopefully start doing a lot more cooking for myself and eating better than I did in college. Leigh and I did slowly get into cooking more while I was in SLO, though I worry about cooking for one. Maybe I'll have to invite friends over and bring food to work.

Meanwhile, when I get into my own apartment, I have three things I really want to either do or look into the possibility of doing;

  • I want to build my own Worm Box. This seems like a really cool idea, and seems to jive well with the notion of cooking for myself more.

  • I want to try and practice playing the guitar more. I wasn't good about this last time I lived alone, but a lot of the folks in Tacoma play, so maybe I can get some first-hand tips or advice. Plus, I think it'd be a ton of fun to be able to play along for our songs-with-beer.

  • I have a couple ideas for extending eqdkp. I've been off WoW for a few weeks due to my move and I'm hoping to get back into the game here in the next few weeks. That being said I have a couple of cool ideas for things to mess with for my guild's dkp site that could be an excellent opportunity for me to play with both PHP and Ruby on Rails. This'll take a lot of pushing myself since I tend to slack off when I get home, so we'll see.

  • I want to bike more. Redmond is supposed to be the biking capital of the Pacific Northwest so we'll see if this happens. I think there's a trail really close to my apartment and biking to work won't be uphill both ways like it was over the summer.

  • I really want to clean up and get rid of some stuff. There looked like way more boxes than there should have been when I moved. I think a lot of it is old papers (i.e. trash from school), so we'll see how much I can actually get rid of. I have some really old stuff that I don't think I'd be willing to part with though. I sort of wish I was less of a pack-rat especially when I think I have digital backups of some of the stuff.

    Then again, I think I need to clean up the digital stuff I own too. I bet I have a lot of things I really don't need, or that should be burned to DVD to never be looked at again. Alas.

  • I want to put up some Rasterbations. Because they can be sexy when done right. I'll probably have to print them out at Kinkos or something and I'm debating cutting some foam board to make it look a lot better. Maybe I'll post pictures if it works out.

  • Lastly, I want to look into what it takes to mash my own grains for my beer brewing. I want to put a lot more effort into this and really get good at making my own beer. This is even bigger to me than cooking, though I think it goes a bit hand-in-hand. I think the local brewing shop sells some supplies that could make this happen. It may have to wait for my someday living in a house.

I think some other really awesome things are coming up soon, but I hope to make those later blog posts. Maybe with pictures too! Maybe I'll post something after I've moved.
